365 Film Challenge - Melancholia
- pretty visually stunning story about the end of days, conflicting emotions, and how fragile human relationships are. the cinematography steals the show; it feels really practical and only partially touched in post, even though i’m sure there was TONS and TONS of scrutiny to make it all juuuuust right. the only qualms i really have are 1) the inclusion of the end of the film at the beginning, i feel like it makes all the drama of the film not even matter since we know the outcome and 2) some of the editing was drawn out for a tad too long for me; too much of the orchestra-underscored slow-mo got tiresome for me, but that could be preference over criticism. like i said, a beautiful film if you’ve got the time for it.
